Myopia Control – Reduce the progression of Short-sightedness

Ortho-k is fantastic for children. Numerous studies on myopia (short-sightedness) and ortho-k have indicated that these lenses can dramatically slow, even stop, the progression of short-sightedness in children. Subsequently they can reduce the risk of developing associated problems, such as glaucoma, in adulthood.

The improvements vary for each individual child, and the treatment has never been known to exacerbate short-sightedness, making it the best, safest option available now.

Peace of Mind for Parents

Parents are often faced with fees for frames, replacement specs and spares, none of which are cheap. Because a child only wears ortho-k lenses when they are indoors, and in bed, there is less likelihood of damage and loss. Parents are free of worry and added expense, and children can get on with, enjoying their childhood!

Myopia Control Studies

The number of children developing myopia across the world has substantially grown in a very short space of time. In some parts of the world myopia is at epidemic levels. In Europe 30% of children will develop myopia.

If myopia is left to progress, become worse, it can lead to serious complications with vision in later life. However, a number of recent studies have shown that the unique optics created by ortho-k (orthokeratology) can drastically slow, even stop myopic progression.

Here are a two of the most relevant and recent studies:

A recent study, conducted over three years, that shows a significant slowing of myopic progression in ortho-k patients.
